Hon. Joseph Nyagah Officially Opens Eldoret National Show

The Eldoret National Show was officially opened on Friday 8th March 2012 by the Minister for Cooperative Development and Marketing, Hon. Joseph Nyagah E.G.H, M.P. The programme of the day started at 10:00am with the Ministerial party touring the showground visiting the demonstration plots and the trade area.

Later the National Chairman of the Agricultural Society of Kenya Mrs. Alice Kalya hosted a luncheon in honour of the minister who was accompanied by her cabinet colleague. The Luncheon sponsored by the Kenya Seed Company was also graced by Minister for Agriculture and Deputy Patron of the Agricultural Society of Kenya, Hon. Dr. Sally Kosgei E.G.H, M.P.

At the official opening ceremony, the National Chairman Mrs. Alice Kalya said the Society incurred losses amounting to Kshs. 85m due to occupation of its facilities by the post election violence victims in Eldoret, Kitale, Nairobi, Nakuru and Nyeri.

She said, to date the Society had received a paltry Kshs. 5.8m as compensation from the government. This has seriously eroded the Society’s liquidity and led to heavy indebtedness. She therefore appealed to two cabinet ministers present to press the Government to fully compensate the Society.

She said the role the Society plays in making the Country Food secure was central and should be supported by the Government and all Stakeholders.
